VidMasta is a platform-independent and freely distributed application designed to be used by anyone who wants to quickly and easily get detailed information about their favorite movies or the latest TV shows.

Supports a wide variety of video formats

It supports the standard 720p and 1080p/1080i HD (High-Definition) video formats, as well as the classic HQ (High-Quality) DVD and TV 4:3 or 16:9/16:10 formats. In addition, you can whitelist or blacklist certain video file extensions, such as AVI, MKV, VOB, WMV, MPG, MPEG, MP4, MOV, M2TS, ISO, BIN, or RAR.

The graphical user interface is easy-to-use, allowing users to use profiles, set default download size, manage proxies, set default results per search, connection timeout settings, language, country, web browser start notification, as well as new HQ movies on startup.

Supports subtitles, TV show plots and IMDb ratings

The application includes support for downloading subtitle files for videos, watch trailers of selected titles, view movie or TV show plots, view IMDb ratings and release dates of titles, as well as to order search results by popularity (fully automatic).

Under the hood

Under the hood, we can report that the application is written in the Java programming language, which means that it is available on the Linux, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems.

On Linux, the application is available for download as a JAR archive, which can be used to install the application on your computer using a graphical installer that can be fired up from the command-line using the java -jar vidmasta-setup-xx.x.jar command (where xx.x is the version number e.g. 17.3).

You can delete the JAR archive after the application has been successfully installed. The program will be automatically opened by the installer, allowing users to immediately use the application to watch or download TV shows or movies.

Bottom line

All in all, VidMasta is an interesting application that lets users to search movies and TV shows, view trailers, as well as to download or watch them in a web browser. It is stable, reliable and provides users with a consistent user interface on all supported platforms.
