FxMovieManager is an open source twin-panel file manager that features movie thumbnail generator and a playlist. It has been designed to act as a simple GUI front-end for the MPlayer command-line software, helping users to better organize their video clips and movie files.

Being described as a simple and easy to use graphical user interface for the MPlayer and ffplay programs, the application also acts as a front-end for the libclamav library (FXScanVirus) and for command-line archive utilities (FXArchive).

Key features include play table with video thumbs that can be stored to a local file and reloaded, file operations dialog, file properties dialog, integrated file search engine that features a file matching selection dialog, detailed movie information dialog, and file extension associations dialog. The application also integrates a movie thumbnails customization dialog and a language selection dialog. Supported languages include English, Italian, French, German, Spanish, Russina, Chinese, Japanese, and others.

By default, it comes with 15 themes that are easily selectable from the theme selection dialog. It provides users with basic file operations, such as copy, rename, move, and symlink creation. Users will be able to easily change permissions of files, as well as to view properties of both audio and video streams. It is very important to mention here that the thumbnails customization dialog only supports the libffmpegthumbnailer library. Two view modes are provided: single panel view and dual panel view.

Its easy to use and modern graphical user interface allows users to easily browser their entire file system for movie files and video clips, which can be organized and played using the well known and powerful MPlayer video playback software. The application can be easily installed from the default software channels of many GNU/Linux distributions. It is distributed by its developer as a single source archive, which can be configure, compiled and installed on any Linux operating system, as long as all requirements are met.

What's new in FxMovieManager 6.8:

  • Now only mplayer and mpv are supported on the playlist-table, while the internal player requires libmpv and it is the default player for the filelists. These major changes have been adopted in order to have independent players (on the plalist-table, on the left and on the right filelists) that allows for seeing multiple movies at the same time.
