SymbolEditor For Linux

SymbolEditor is an open source, platform independent and freely distributed software project, a desktop application that allows you to create QPainterPath symbol libraries with as minimal effort as possible.

While the application was initially designed to create symbol libraries that can be imported into the KXStitch cross-stitching pattern maker, it is now able to create libraries of QPainterPath objects.

The program includes a vast amount of tools that let you to design basic or complex symbols, including lines, rectangles, ellipses and bezier curves, that can be unfilled or filled.

SymbolEditor will allow you to rotate or mirror the symbols, as well as to select text characters from any font. You can change the joining style and the line end type. The line thickness can be varied.

While the default view mode of the application is the Editor, the program also features a Library view mode from where you can browse available graphics. It is possible to import a library of cross-stitch symbols.

Among the available tools, we can mention move, draw, cubic, rectangle and ellipse. The user can insert characters, rotate items to left or right, flip items horizontally or vertically, as well as to scale them to prefered size.

Another interesting feature is the inclusion of several rendering functions, which will allow you to fill path, increase or decrease line width, join bevel, miter or round, create winding or odd even fills, as well as flat, square or round caps.

The application is written in the C++ programming language and uses the Qt4 GUI toolkit for its graphical user interface. While it’s primarly available for download as a source archive, it officially supports the Fedora and openSUSE Linux distributions. It currently runs on 32-bit and 64-bit hardware platforms.
