Galbum 0.1

GAlbum is currently a small photo album application for Gtk+ and GNOME. It aims to be a system for media data management.

Currently the available functions support browsing of a collection of digital photos. Galbum indexes photos by content rather than by file name so duplicated photos are handled correctly.

· GTK+ version 2.8.x
· Sqlite

GAlbum is distributed following the standard free software conventions. To build from source, cd to the top of the source tree, and do

./configure --prefix=
make install

GAlbum requires gtk+ and SQLite. They shall be installed by default from a typical GNU/Linux distribution.

The above procedure builds a program called galbum.

GAlbum can be run from the shell by manually invoking the program as

% galbum

Currently GAlbum has only been tested on a Fedora Core 5 X86 system although it shall work on other X86 Unix-like systems with gcc and the standard GNU tools.

You can import a directory containing photos into the program by clicking on the "import" button. Remember to select a directory containing photos rather than individual photo files.

Once you have created a collection, you can double click on a thumbnail to open another window to view the picture. The viewer window supports zooming in and out of the picture from 5% to 400% the original size.

GAlbum tracks the EXIF meta data associated with each photo. Currently this information is not displayed; however, future support for EXIF tag browsing and querying will be added.

Additionally, GAlbum will add support for custom tagging of photos.
