mediacontrol is a command-line tool to control MPD and MPlayer in order to make consuming media more convenient.

Usage

mcd has to be running all the time, so it's best to start it with X (e.g. ~/.xinitrc, ~/.fluxbox/startup, ..) or during system startup (e.g. /etc/rc.local, /etc/conf.d/local.start, ..).

mcc tells mcd what to do, see mcc -h for a list and description of commands.

Special features

play files: if you run mcc file with file being any media file, it will be opened with mplayer and all other optiones are passed through to it. So instead of running mplayer, just run mcc; or use this: alias mplayer='mcc'

quickplay: this command searches the playlist and database of the player for the given parameters and plays it. It's especially useful with mpd, e.g. mcc qp yourfavouriteband or mcc qp yourfavouritesong.
