Fido is a free software project conceived to develop a scheduled media downloader and encoder for the GNU/Linux platform.
Fido allows you to automatically download the latest editions of online programmes and re-encode them for your portable media player. In other words, Fido lets you enjoy your favourite radio and T.V. programmes whenever you want, wherever you want.
The project is free software released under the GNU GPL.
Fido is currently in alpha release. This means that all the basic functionality is in place. However, it lacks certain features necessary for convenient everyday use. As such, Fido is not presently suitable for use by people who are not at least comfortable filing comprehensive bug reports. Fido is currently recommended for users who are happy to contribute to improving the software by submitting bug reports and patches. Other users are invited to await the forth coming beta release.
What's New in This Release:
· This release contains the re-encoding framework, the last piece of core functionality that was missing.
· Currently, there exists support for re-encoding to MP3 only.
· Substantial improvements have also been made to the help text and reporting of syntax errors in the client.
