liblivecd For Linux

liblivecd is a freely distributed and open source software project, a distribution of Linux derived from the world’s most popular free operating system, Ubuntu, and built around various harvesting tools, such as DSpace, Koha and PKP Harvester. It is actually derived from the Lubuntu Linux distribution and uses the low on resources LXDE graphical desktop environment.

For your convenience, the liblivecd operating system is distributed as a bootable, Live DVD ISO image that is fully compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit personal computers. It can be used from either a DVD disc or a USB thumb drive of 2GB or higher capacity.

The Live DVD boot menu is identical in look and functionality with the one of the Lubuntu Linux operating system, asking the user to choose a language from the get-go. Default boot options include the ability to try liblivecd without installing it, to start the installation directly, to check the integrity of the bootable medium (only if booting from a DVD media), to perform a memory test, as well as to boot an existing OS from the local disk drive.

Being a Lubuntu derivative, liblivecd is built around LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment), which offers a traditional, one-panel layout. The panel is located on the bottom edge of the screen and includes various applets that allow you to launch applications, interact with running programs, cycle between virtual workspaces, as well as to access essential system functions.
