e-Exam is an open source Linux distribution based on the world’s most popular free operating system, Ubuntu Linux, and designed to provide a repository and a custom desktop environment (powered by Unity) for the eExam platform. It includes various open source software, including LibreOffice, MySQL, Apache, Moodle LMS, and PHP.

The eExam platform is an online remote learning platform that enables the examination of supervised BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) exams. A BYOD exam is a modern method where students boot the the eExam platform directly from a USB flash drive on their own computers.

The e-Exam operating system is distributed as a single, dual-arch Live DVD ISO image that has approximately 2 GB in size and includes software packages optimized for both 64-bit (x86_64) and 32-bit (i386) instruction set architectures. It can be easily deployed to a DVD disc or a USB thumb drive of 2GB or higher capacity.

The boot options are not so important for a distributions like e-Exam, but it is there and the user needs to know that he or she can doesn't have to press any button, just leave the Live DVD do its thing, which is to start the live system. There are a few boot options available for advanced users who want to test the integrity of the bootable medium (only if booting from a DVD media), as well as to boot an operating system that is installed on the first disk drive or perform a system memory diagnostic test.

e-Exam's default and only graphical session is powered by the controversial and awesome Unity desktop environment of the Ubuntu Linux operating system, which means that you will have to work on a modern and productive interface that comprises of a customized Unity Launcher, which includes various shortcuts for the preinstalled eExam components, as well as the Unity Panel.
