Ubuntu Netboot For Linux

Welcome to the Trusty Tahr edition of Ubuntu Netboot, an open source project designed for system administrators and experienced users with special requirements who want to deploy the world's most popular free operating system over network.

This special Ubuntu edition is available for download as a minimal ISO image, as well as a collection of files that are required for booting, downloading and installing the Ubuntu Linux operating system over the Internet, using the well known network boot method.

Among the supported hardware platforms, we can mention 64-bit (amd64), 32-bit (i386), PPC (PowerPC) 32-bit, PPC (PowerPC) 64-bit, PPC (PowerPC) e500, PPC (PowerPC) e500mc, PPC64el (PowerPC 64-bit Little Endian) and ARMhf (ARM Hard Float).

The project is engineered in such a way that it allows users to boot the installation system over network, boot the operating system from a LAN (Local Area Network) and mounting the local file systems with NFS, as well as to install the entire Ubuntu distribution by downloading all the required files.

Most network connection types are supported by Ubuntu Netboot, including PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) via either FTP or HTTP protocols. After installation, it is possible to configure the system to use the  PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) and ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) connections.

Ubuntu Netboot is a really great project that will definitely help advanced Linux users and system administrators who want to deploy the Ubuntu Linux operating system across multiple computers on a local area network without hassle.

It can be used to install Ubuntu, boot only the installation system, as well as using the diskless installation method explained above. It is an LTS (Long Term Support) release that will be supported by Canonical until April 2019.
