Revolution OS is an open source, lightweight, complete, fast and free computer operating system, a distribution of Linux based on the Linux kernel and derived from the Manjaro Linux OS, which in turn is based on the highly acclaimed Arch Linux distro. It is built around the traditional MATE desktop environment.

The Revolution OS distro is available for download as a Live DVD ISO image of approximately 2 GB in size, containing software packages optimized only for computers supporting the 32-bit (i386/x86) hardware architectures. Despite the fact that the 32-bit Live DVD can also be used on modern 64-bit machines, a dedicated 64-bit ISO image is yet to be released.

Revolution OS’ Live DVD boot menu offers standard options, such as the ability to start the live system with normal configuration or in safe graphics mode, start the installation directly, perfor a memory test, as well as to boot an existing operating system from the local disk drive.

The default and only graphical session of Revolution OS is built around the MATE desktop environment, as well as the Openbox window manager. The layout comprised of a single panel located on the bottom edge of the screen. The panel includes a custom and modern Main Menu applet in the style of the Cinnamon desktop environment, allowing the user to quickly launch apps and access essential system functions and settings.

Default applications include the Deja Dup system backup software, ClamTK anti-virus software, Disks disk utility, GIMP image editor, Shotwell image viewer and organizer, Deluge torrent downloader, Mumble gaming chat client, HexChat IRC client, Pidgin multi-protocol IM client, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, Skype VoIP software, Pale Moon web browser, LibreOffice office suite, Geany IDE, Clementine and Rhythmbox music players, K3b CD/DVD/BD burning software, VLC Media Player, Guake terminal, and BleachBit system cleaner.
