Quirky Tahr Edition For Linux

Quirky Tahr Edition is an open source distribution of Linux that uses the same stable base as the main Quirky distro, which is based on Puppy Linux, and has been tweaked to support DEB packages from the default software repository of the Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr) operating system.

This special Quirky edition can be downloaded from Softpedia or from its official website (see link above) as an IMG file that must be deployed to a USB flash drives of 8GB or higher capacity, as well as an USFS binary file.

As expected, the operating system uses the same minimal boot prompt that is used on the main Quirky edition and numerous other Puppy Linux flavors. It basically allows you to add additional kernel parameters, in case you have some devices that don’t work properly with default boot options.

The default and only desktop environment of the Quirky Tahr Edition is, of course, IceWM, which provides an old-style, Windows 95-like graphical interface comprised of a single panel located on the bottom edge of the screen, from where the user can quickly access the main menu, launch applications and interact with opened programs or system tray area functions.

Default applications include the VLC Media Player, QupZilla web browser, Sylpheed email client, qutIM multi-protocol instant messenger, and many more that can be easily installed via DEB or PET binary files.

Also known as a "puplet," Quirky Tahr Edition provides users with a minimalistic and open source Linux operating system, a distinct Linux distro in its own right, build on the same ideas as the main Quirky edition and specifically designed for low-end computers with old or semi-old hardware components.
