The official Xfce edition of the Pardus-based open source Pisi Linux operating system. #Pisi Linux #Xfce desktop #Pardus Linux #Pisi #Xfce #Pardus
Pisi Linux Xfce is a special edition of the Pisi Linux operating system built around the lightweight, customizable and fast Xfce desktop environment. The distribution is based on the Pardus Linux OS and uses the PiSi package management system for installing and updating packages.
The Xfce edition of Pisi Linux supports only 64-bit (x86_64) computers and it’s available for download as an installable-only ISO image of approximately 1GB in size, deployable on DVD discs or USB thumb drives of 2GB or higher capacity.
When booting the ISO image from the BIOS of a computer, the user must first choose a language that will be used for the installation process and the final system. Supported languages include English US, Spanish, Catalan, Swedish, Dutch, French, German, Czech, Croatian, Polish, Hungarian, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Turkish and Italian.
Default boot options include the ability to install a new Pisi Linux system, boot an existing OS from the local drive, rescue a broken operating system, perform a memory test, as well as to view detailed information about your computer’s hardware components.
As there’s no live mode available, the user must install the operating system on his or her computer. The graphical installer is simple, straightforward, asking you to accept the license, select a keyboard layout, configure the date and time, set up users and passwords, select a partitioning method and configure the bootloader.
When booting Pisi Linux Xfce for the first time, we had the unfortunate surprise to discover that the default desktop session is not Xfce and that the system will try to start a GNOME session that ultimately fails. You must manually set Xfce as the default graphical desktop environment from the Sessions section of the login screen.
Among the pre-installed applications, we can mention the FileZilla file transfer client, Inkscape vector graphics editor, Mozilla Firefox web browser, GIMP image editor, HexChat and XChat IRC client, Tux Paint drawing program, Transmission torrent downloader, qTwitter microblogging client, Liferea news reader, Geany IDE, GNOME MPlayer video player, Audacious audio player, Parole media player, Xfburn and Brasero CD/DVD burning software.
