Lubuntu Saner Defaults Remix For Linux

Lubuntu Saner Defaults Remix is an open-source and completely free distribution of Linux derived from the well-known and widely used Lubuntu operating system, an official edition of Ubuntu Linux that uses LXDE as its default and only desktop environment.

This operating system is part of a project that includes two more other Ubuntu remixes, the Ubuntu Saner Defaults Remix and Ubuntu Razor Remix. It’s distributed as a dual-arch Live CD that supports both 64-bit and 32-bit hardware platforms.

The boot menu of the Live CD is identical with the one of the official Lubuntu operating system. It allows you to try the distribution without installing it, perform a system memory diagnostic test, start a fresh installation, check the integrity of the bootable medium (only if using a CD media) or boot from the local drive.

Being based on Lubuntu, this remix uses the same graphical session, which is powered by LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment). It comprises of a single panel located on the bottom edge of the screen, designed to allow users to easily launch applications, interact with running programs, as well as to cycle between virtual workspaces.

The main goal of a Saner Defaults Remix is to include a different set of applications than the one of the respective upstream *buntu operating system. For example, this remix includes the Chromium and Mozilla Firefox web browsers, pyNeighborhood SMB/CIFS browsing utility, Cheese webcam viewer, VLC Media Player, DeaDBeeF audio player and GNOME MPlayer video player.

The Xfburn CD/DVD burning software, AbiWord word processor, Osmo personal organizer, Gnumeric spreadsheet editor, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, XChat IRC client, Transmission torrent downloader, Simple Scan image scanner, mtPaint graphic editor and Shotwell image viewer and organizer are also included.
