LaciOS For Linux

LaciOS is an open source project that provides users with a Linux distribution based on the highly acclaimed and award winning Debian GNU/Linux operating system. It is built around the Xfce desktop environment and supports both English and Brazilian Portuguese languages.

The system is available for download as two Live DVD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platforms (64-bit and 32-bit). They can be burned to blank DVD discs or written to USB thumb drives.

From the boot menu you can try the distribution without installing it or in failsafe mode, run a memory diagnostic test, as well as to start an existing operating system installed on the first hard disk drive.

As mentioned, the distro uses the lightweight Xfce desktop environment, which features a single panel located on the bottom edge of the screen, from where users can access the main menu and system tray area, switch between the four virtual workspaces, as well as to launch applications and interact with running apps.

Default applications include the Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, Mozilla Thunderbird email client, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Geany integrated development environment, LibreOffice office suite, Audacious audio player, and VLC Media Player.

It comes with the Xfburn CD/DVD burning software, a mixer for the ALSA sound server, a PulseAudio configuration utility, Thunar file manager, GParted disk partitioning tool, LightDM display manager, Transmission torrent downloader, XChat IRC client, GIMP image editor, gThumb image viewer, GNU Paint digital painting tool, Inkscape SVG graphics editor, and Evince document viewer.
