Distributed as 32-bit/64-bit Live DVDs
The system is distributed as Live DVD ISO-hybrid images, which means that they can be written to either USB flash drives or DVD discs. It is compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit instruction set architectures and supports low-end computers.
Users can use the bootable medium to start the live environment with default settings or in failsafe mode (if the first option doesn’t recognizes your video card), and install the operating system (both text-mode and graphical installers are offered).
Two advanced options are implemented in the boot menu of the Live CD, allowing users to run a memory test, as well as to view detailed information about the hardware components of the computer they’re trying to run Debian Live LXDE on.
Powered by the Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment
As mentioned, the live session is powered by the LXDE desktop environment. It is very clean and provides users with a single taskbar, located at the bottom edge of the screen and used for managing running apps, switching between virtual workspaces, and launching applications.
Default applications include the PCManFM file manager, Xarchiver archive manager, LXTerminal terminal emulator, Leafpad text editor, GPicView image viewer, GIMP image editor, LibreOffice office suite, LXMusic music player, XTerm terminal emulator, and Iceweasel web browser.
In addition, there are also various useful system utilities, such as Synaptic Package Manager, which allows users to install new applications or update/remove existing ones. You can also use it to install another desktop environment and switch between them using the default login screen.
Summing up, Debian Live LXDE is a very fast and well built Debian Live flavor, especially because of the lightweight LXDE desktop environment and the handpicked collection of stable and reliable applications. Use it to transform a deprecated Windows XP machine into a state-of-the-art workstation!
