AliyaLinux For Linux

AliyaLinux is an open source and freely downloadable GNU/Linux distribution derived from the highly acclaimed Debian operating system and built around the Xfce desktop environment. It aims to be lightweight, designed for Linux newcomers.

The AliyaLinux operating system is based on the Linux kernel and distributed as a Live DVD ISO image that contains software packages optimized only for the 64-bit computer platform. The ISO image is hybrid and has approximately 2 GB in size. Uses can write it to either a DVD disc or a USB thumb drive of 4GB or higher capacity.

The Live DVD boot menu has a simple design and offers standard boot options, such as the ability to start the live system with normal settings, in text mode or in failsafe mode. Users will be able to test the RAM (system memory) of their computer, as well as to boot an existing operating system from the local disk drive.

The distro uses a highly customized Xfce desktop environment, which offers a Windows 7-like wallpaper and a clean desktop comprised of a single panel located on the upper part of the screen and a clock/calendar/system monitoring widget on the desktop. A dock is also installed, but not activated by default, at least not in the live session.

When using the AliyaLinux distribution, users will be able to browse the Internet with Mozilla Firefox, install Windows games and apps with PlayOnLinux, install, update and remove Linux packages with Synaptic Package Manager, manage their files with Thunar, create office documents with LibreOffice, and manage their ebooks collection with Calibre.

The Midnight Commander, DockbarX, Leafpad, Mousepad, Gnote, Xarchiver, Xfburn, XTerm, UXTerm, USB Image Writer, USB Stick Formatter, Terminator, Parcellite, Screenshot, Task Manager, Orage Calendar, Orage Globaltime, Notes, Galculator, Bulk Rename, Catfish File Search, Camorama, GIMP, Inkscape, Shotwell, Simple Scan utilities are also installed.
