Photoalbum is a free, simple and open source script written in Bash, designed from the ground up to help you generate beautiful and clean photo albums in HTML. It uses the powerful and popular ImageMagick command-line tool to generate the photo album, which can be comprised of several static HTML pages.

The “photoalbum” command supports several options, ‘clean’ to clean up the working space, ‘generate’ to generate the static photo album, ‘makemake’ to create photoalbumrc and Makefile files in the current directory, as well as ‘version’ to output the program’s version.

First of all, we remind you that this is a command-line application, which must be used via a X11 terminal emulator. In order to output a single and static image gallery, Photoalbum requires only one input folder that contains multiple sub-directories, which contain images in JPG format. It will output a directory that includes static HTML pages and thumbnails for the images. These can be easily distributed on a static web server.

Before you get started, make sure that the /etc/default/photoalbum file is properly configured for your needs. If it is not, you can edit it by copying the /etc/default/photoalbum file to ~/.photoalbumrc, in your Home directory. Then, copy all the images that you want to be included in the gallery to the incoming folder (see the config file for details). Finally, execute the “photoalbum” command to generate the image gallery.
