Corebird is an open source and completely free graphical application written in GTK+ for GNU/Linux systems, designed from the ground up to act as a native client for the amazing and widely used Twitter social networking service.

Each tweet can be double-clicked to view more information about it, such as how many retweets and favorites it got, the date and time it was sent, the program used for sending the tweet, as well as its source, which can be opened with your default web browser. From the main window, you will be able to easily switch between multiple accounts, compose a new tweet, minimize, maximize and close the main window, as well as to access the app’s settings.

The application presents users with a modern and attractive graphical user interface that displays all the tweets from all of the user’s followers at a glance. A minimalist sidebar will ensure that you easily navigate between Home, Mentions, Favorites, Direct Messages, Lists, Filters and Search.

Hovering a tweet will display the retweet, favorite and reply buttons. The last buttom will allow you to retweet by quoting or view details about the tweet (similar to the double-click on tweet function explained above).

At the moment, Corebird is distributed only as a source tarball on GitHub, but it can be easily installed from the main software repositories of various distributions, including Arch Linux. The application’s source code, which can also be downloaded from Softpedia, can be installed and optimized by users for a specific hardware architecture (32-bit or 64-bit) and operating system.

To install it using the TAR archive distributed on our website, download and save the file somewhere on your computer, unpack its contents, open a terminal emulator, navigate to the location of the extracted archive files using the ‘cd’ command and run the ‘sh autogen.sh’ command to configure the code. Then, execute the ‘make’ command to compile Corebird.

For a successful compilation, you will need to install the Vala package from the software repos of your distribution, as the program is written entirely in the Vala object-oriented programming language. When the compilation process has finished, you can install Corebird system wide by running the ‘make install’ command as root or with sudo.

To get the latest source code of the software from GitHub, you must execute the ‘git clone https://github.com/baedert/corebird.git’ command in a terminal emulator. Navigate to the location of the source files using the ‘cd corebird’ command, type the ‘cmake .’ command to configure the program and the ‘make’ command to compile it.
