KeywordBar is a Firefox extension that shows a sidebar with all bookmarks that contain a defined keyword (shortcuts). The sidebar can be viewed by clicking on View|Sidebar|Keywords. Double-clicking on a keyword will insert it into the URLBar for quick access.
Developer Comments
1) The reason I put the URL in the URL bar instead of just going to the bookmark is most of my keywords are shortcuts for searches which require a search string. For example, dict is set up to look up a definition on dictionary.com, and that shortcut requires the word to search for as part of the URL.
2) You add new keywords/bookmarks using the default Firefox method -- either adding them manually with the Bookmarks Manager, dragging and dropping, or Bookmarks|Add Bookmark. Once a bookmark has been added you can modify the keyword property by opening the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks|Manage Bookmarks), right-clicking on a specific bookmark, and selecting Properties. More information on Keywords/Shortcuts can be found here: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/smart-keywords
My extension just loops through all the bookmarks looking for those with a keyword defined.
