Bitnami Redmine Stack
Bitnami Redmine Stack is a freely distributed and multi-platform software project that aims to deliver and easy-to-install and easy-to-use distribution of the Redmine bug tracking software and its runtime dependencies. It can be deployed on desktop computers or laptops using native installers, a virtual appliance or modules for the Bitnami LAMP, WAMP and MAMP stacks.
What is Redmine?
Redmine is a flexible project management web application. Written using Ruby on Rails framework, it is cross-platform and cross-database. Redmine includes support for multiple projects, Gantt calendar and chart, role-based access control, news management, per-project forums and wikis, SCM integration and more.
Installing Bitnami Redmine Stack
Bitnami Redmine Stack is distributed mainly as native installers, which have been generated using the BitRock InstallBuilder cross-platform tool, designed to support all GNU/Linux distributions, as well as the Microsoft Windows operating system.
To install the Redmine application and its runtime dependencies on your PC, you will have to download the file that corresponds to your computer’s hardware architecture (64-bit or 32-bit), run it and follow the on-screen instructions.
Run Redmine in the cloud
Thanks to Bitnami, users will be able to run the Redmine software in the cloud with their own cloud hosting platform or by using a pre-built cloud image for either of the Windows Azure or Amazon EC2 cloud hosting providers.
Virtualize Redmine or use the Docker container
In addition to installing Redmine on PCs or run it in the cloud, you can also deploy it on the Oracle VirtualBox and VMware ESX/ESXi virtualization software, thanks to Bitnami’s Ubuntu-based virtual appliance. A Redmine Docker container will also be available for download on the project’s website.
The Bitnami Redmine Module
Besides the Bitnami Redmine Stack product reviewed here, Bitnami also offers modules for its LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP), WAMP (Windows, Apache, MySQL and PHP) or MAMP (Mac, Apache, MySQL and PHP) stacks, which allow you to deploy only the Redmine software on personal computers, without having to install its runtime dependecies.
