BitNami MediaWiki Stack 1.23.5-0
What is MediaWiki?
MediaWiki is an open source, free and web-based Wiki software originally written for Wikipedia. It is an extremely scalable and powerful web-based application that provides a feature-rich Wiki implementation. Key features include internationalization (support for numerous languages), support for building Intranets, as well as support for creating knowledge bases.
Installing BitNami MediaWiki Stack
As mentioned, BitNami MediaWiki Stack is distributed as native installers, which have been built using the BitRock InstallBuilder multiplatform tool and designed to support all GNU/Linux operating systems. To install MediaWiki on your personal computer, simply download the binary file that corresponds to your computer’s hardware architecture (64-bit or 32-bit), make it executable, run it and follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
Virtualize MediaWiki or run it on the cloud
In addition to install MediaWiki on your computer, it is possible to deploy it on the cloud using the pre-built cloud images for the Amazon EC2 and Windows Azure cloud hosting services, as well as to virtualize it using BitNami’s virtual appliance for Oracle VirtualBox and VMware ESX/ESXi virtualization software, based on the latest version of the Ubuntu Linux operating system. A MediaWiki Docker container is also available for download.
The BitNami MediaWiki Module
Besides the BitNami MediaWiki Stack product reviewed here, BitNami also offers a module that allows users to deploy the MediaWiki application on top of a BitNami LAMP, WAMP or MAMP stack, without having to deal with its runtime dependencies. BitNami MediaWiki Module is available for download on Softpedia, free of charge.
