What is DokuWiki?
DokuWiki is an open source, simple, free, platform-independent and standards-compliant Wiki software, which has been optimized for creating documentation and targeted at developer teams, small companies, and workgroups.
Installing Bitnami DokuWiki Stack
The Bitnami DokuWiki Stack product is distributed as native installers, which have been created using BitRock’s cross-platform installer tool, designed to support the GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems.
To install the DokuWiki application and its server-related requirements, simply download the package that corresponds to your computer’s hardware architecture (32-bit and 64-bit), run it and follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
Run DokuWiki in the cloud
Thanks to Bitnami, users are also able to run their own DokuWiki server in the cloud with their personal cloud hosting platform or by using a pre-built cloud image for the Windows Azure and Amazon EC2 cloud hosting providers.
Virtualize DokuWiki or use the Docker container
Additionally, it is possible to virtualize DokuWiki on the Oracle VirtualBox and VMware ESX, ESXi virtualization software, by using Bitnami’s pre-build virtual appliance based on the latest stable release of the Ubuntu Linux operating system. A DokuWiki Docker container will also be available for download on the project’s homepage (see link below).
The Bitnami DokuWiki Module
Besides the Bitnami DokuWiki Stack product reviewed here, users can also download the Bitnami DokuWiki Module software, which allows them to deploy the DokuWiki application on top on Bitnami LAMP Stack, Bitnami MAMP Stack or Bitnami WAMP Stack servers, without having to install its runtime dependencies.
