What is Alfresco?
Alfresco is an open source and enterprise-ready Content Management System (CMS) solution featuring document management, web content management, collaboration management, records management and image management.
Installing Bitnami Alfresco Stack
Bitnami’s native installers have been generated with the BitRock InstallBuilder tool, which means that they run well on all GNU/Linux distributions, as well as on the Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems. Both 32-bit and 64-bit (recommended) computers are supported at this time.
To install the Alfresco web-based application and all of its server-related requirements on desktop computers or laptops, you will have to first download the package that corresponds to your PC’s hardware architectures, give it executable permissions, run it and follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
Host Alfresco in the cloud
Thanks to Bitnami, you can host your own Alfresco server in the cloud by using the pre-build cloud images for the Windows Azure or Amazon EC2 cloud hosting provides, or with your own cloud hosting platform.
Run Alfresco on VirtualBox or VMware
Besides installing Alfresco on personal computers or host it in the cloud, it is possible to virtualize it on top of the Oracle VirtualBox or VMware ESX/ESXi virtualization software, thanks to Bitnami’s virtual appliance based on the latest Long Term Support (LTS) release of Ubuntu Linux.
The Alfresco Docker container
In addition to the traditional virtualization of the Alfresco application, as explained above, Bitnami will offer a Docker container, which will be available for download on the project’s website (see link below). Unfortunately, Alfresco modules for Bitnami’s LAMP, WAMP and MAMP stacks are not available at this time.
