Web Help Desk Review by
4.0/5

Web Help Desk is a commercial, affordable, platform-independent and intuitive web-based help desk application implemented in PHP and designed from the offset to be an easy-to-use service desk software, a reliable issue tracking system or a flexible customer support solution.

It is an 100% web-based IT Service Management (ITSM) solution that features incident and problem management (also known as issue tracking), asset and configuration management (CMDB), two-way email correspondence, as well as knowledge base management.

The software comes with many other attractive features, such as Active Directory and LDAP synchronization, reporting, customer satisfaction survey management (CSSM), support for all known email protocols, and robust action rule automation.

Among other features, we can mention parent and child relationships, help desk staff triaging, dynamic ticket forms, time tracking, import tickets, unlimited custom fields, iCalendar subscriptions, support for exporting tickets, as well as support for updating multiple tickets at simultaneously.

We can also mention support for load balancing of ticket assignment, email-to-ticket conversion, problem and incident management, customer self-service web interface, full audit trail, nested service catalog selection, quick ticket templates, integration with systems and network management software, support for launching a DameWare remote control session, and simple automated ticket assignment and ticket routing.

Being designed from the ground up to be independent of an operating system, Web Help Desk is a cross-platform application that has been successfully tested under many GNU/Linux distributions, as well as on the Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems, supporting both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x86_64) hardware architectures.

As a matter of fact, it can be used on any computer or mobile operating system where a supported web browser is available, such as Mozilla Firefox, Chromium, Google Chrome, Safari, Opera or Internet Explorer.

What's new in Web Help Desk 12.1.0:

  • The WHD installation program now recognize multiple WHD installations and allows only one WHD installation. This new improvement means that customers can run a WHD installation as many times as needed to fix installations having issues like broken libraries and bad buddy drops. Upgrading to WHD SR1 does not change existing WHD data or the embedded PostgreSQL database.
  • The new installation fixes a previous a IPv6 issue that disabled database startup on Windows 2003 and Windows XP. The installation now automatically detects whether your server supports IPv6 or not, and if it does not, applies a new configuration to the whd.conf file with the IPv6 connector commented out.
  • All users can install WHD with administrator privileges. WHD installations now check if the user running the installation process has WHD administrator privileges. If they do not, the WHD installation program escalates the user’s privileges to administrator privileges so they can successfully install and configure WHD.
