It’s a fork of the LetoDMS document management system, with which it is fully compatible. SeedDMS can use either of the MySQL or SQLite 3 databases to store all types of documents. It is mature enough to be used on an enterprise environment.
Features at a glance
The application is capable of managing documents and folders exactly the same as an operating system manages a filesystem on your hard drive. However, it offers extra metadata, such as random attributes, keywords, author and description. The system uses a strange method for editing documents, as the original one is kept intact while revisions are created with each edit job.
In addition, SeedDMS is capable of indexing most common document types, such as PDF, Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word, so they can be available for full-text search. This functionality exists simply because documents are such complex files, which can include attachments, links to other documents, additional metadata, or numerous revisions.
The third and most important feature of SeedDMS is the built-in workflow engine that allows for random, self-defined workflows. It is much more advanced than the simple workflow management system implemented in LetoDMS, which requested review and approval of documents before their were published.
Technologies used and supported OSes
It is compatible with any distribution of Linux and runs on top of a web server, such as Apache or nginx. Supported hardware architectures include 64-bit and 32-bit. Additionally, it is compatible with all modern web browsers.
