CBoard (Curses/Console Board) is an open source and free Ncurses-powered command-line front-end for chess engines that support the XBoard protocol.

At the moment, CBoard supports reading and writing of PGN formats, including RAV, roster tags, FEN, comments, and NAG.

As reported by users, CBoard works great in any Linux terminal window. It can be used for browsing PGN files using the Crafty chess engine for analyses. Also, the software tends to be very lightweight and not so memory hungry.

CBoard is distributed only as a source archive, but it can be found in the default software repositories of many popular Linux operating systems.
