The Oolite project is an open source and totally free space simulation game, written for Mac OS X in Objective C using Cocoa and OpenGL.

Oolite was written as a response to the withdrawal of the Elite - The New Kind game from the Internet. However, it is inspired by an independent interpretation and expansion of the original game, originally created by Christian Pinder, followed by Ian Bell and David Braben.

Oolite's players can easily expand the game with new features and functionality, thanks to its modular and small design. Almost every aspect of the game can be easily modified using free and simple graphics packages and text editors.

Oolite is a platform-independent game, supporting Linux, Mac OS X and Windows operating systems.
