FreeOrion is a turn-based game of epic space strategy game witch is inspired by Master of Orion.
It builds on the classic '4X' model by incorporating the nation-building elements of games such as Europa Universalis 2 and a versatile tactical combat engine.
While its modular design allows for a significant degree of customization of the game engine and the story elements by the community, the development team is dedicated to the construction of a living, breathing universe in a 'grand campaign' model.
Requirements:
- GiGi - latest from CVS; for 0.3 use branch GIGI_VERSION_0_6_0
- SCons - required to build GG and FreeOrion
- Python - required by SCons, soon needed by FreeOrion itself
- FreeType2 - a GiGi dependency
- Boost - version 1.32 (earlier and later versions are not supported yet)
- log4cpp
- DevIL
- SDL
- FMOD 3.4 (not FMOD EX 4.0) - gratis, but not free software (note: not aviable for Linux 64-bit (AMD64))
- GraphViz - version 2.0 or 2.2(1.16 does not work. Neither does 2.4 or 2.6)

· Major changes include multiple improvements to make the game more playable.
· The game now has space monsters, neutral natives on planets, and a very basic ground combat system for capturing planets.
· A lot of little balancing tweaks were also made to enhance playability.
· New building and binary star variant star graphics.
· New sitrep messages.
· The game will now ignore old config.xml files, preventing some crashes after updating.
