    Tagua description

Tagua is a generic board game application for KDE, including games like Chess, Shogi, Xiangqi, and variants.

Tagua is a generic board game application for KDE, including games like Chess, Shogi, Xiangqi, and variants.

The project is based on a powerful plugin system that allows many games to share the same graphical framework, game history handling, interoperability with AI engines, and connectivity to network servers.

Here are some key features of "Tagua":

    Playing against the computer

    · Tagua supports playing against any chess engine that uses the XBoard protocol to communicate with clients. Analysis mode can also be enabled.

    Local editing of games

    · Games of chess and a number of variants (see below) can be edited and played locally. A user friendly and graphically appealing move list control provides a mean to visualize complicated subvariant nesting. Games can be loaded and copy / pasted through the clipboard.

FICS / ICC compatible server support

    · Tagua can manage a connection to a FICS-like server, with which the user can interact using a detachable console. Games of any chess variant can be played, examined and observed.

    Generic game support

    · Many board games can be easily implemented using the extensible Tagua infrastructure. So far, the following board games are implemented:

    Chess

    · Crazyhouse
    · Shogi (japanese chess)
    · Minichess
    · Minishogi
    · Sho Shogi - missing in the alpha
    · Xiangqi (chinese chess) - missing in the alpha
    · Atomic - missing in the alpha
    · Monster Chess (King and four pawns) - missing in the alpha
    · Progressive Chess - missing in the alpha
    · Reversi - missing in the alpha
    · Connect Four - missing in the alpha
    · Chain Reaction (based on KJumpingCube) - missing in the alpha

    Graphics

    · Tagua features an advanced animation engine which can be easily extended on a per-variant basis. It includes a powerful theme loader based on lua scripts that allows to dynamically create effects like drop down shadows.

    Requirements:

    · KDE 4.x
    · Qt4
    · boost 1.33

    What's New in This Release:

    · This release adds localization support, Czech and French translations, improved support for loading and saving of PGN files, and new Shogi variants.
    · There are a number bugfixes.
