Karamelo is an e-learning platform which provides tools and resources to improve the teaching and learning processes.
Initially developed by an iniciative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, (UNESCO) and the National University of M�xico, Karamelo is an e-Learning, Web 2.0 platform which provides both tools and resources to improve the teaching-learning process.
Teachers can create virtual classrooms and EduBlogs to share and design pedagogical and multimedia materials, eCourses, Webquests, Treasure hunts, Podcasts, all this while keeping in touch with the students and receiving feedback and suggestions about the class and the process.
What is more: the teacher can choose to join the Karamelo network and meet with professors who are teaching the same subjects and collaborate sharing experiences and ideas. The teachers in the network can be working in a town nearby or on the other side of the world.
The students can consult and download the materials given by the teachers, create groups to answer the regular and online activities, consult and post comments in the teacher's blog and download MP3 podcasts to hear the class and other materials in their iPods whenever they need to, as many times as they want to.
The parents can consult the materials and get the general class syllabus, among other things. Finally, the school can store the teachers r�sumes, publish the school year calendar, the rules and regulations and keep in touch with parents using the newsletter.
Karamelo is Web 2.0 application which uses Ajax libraries to manage the information in an intuitive and quick way, it is built using the CakePHP framework and licensed under the GPLv3 license. You can configure and extend Karamelo in a fast and easy way using the MVC framework given by CakePHP.
