FontForge is an open source graphical software especially designed to allows users to edit existing fonts or create new ones. It supports TrueType, PostScript, OpenType, Multi-Master, Cid-Keyed, CFF, Bitmap (BDF), and SVG fonts.

The FontForge application for Linux operating system also lets users to easily and quickly convert fonts from one format to another. In addition, it supports several fonts that are mostly used on Mac OS X operating systems.

FontForge has been designed to import images files like JPG, PNG or TIFF, acting as character backgrounds for tracing purposes.

What's New in This Release:
  • Large overhaul of the Compile Make build system was moved over into Autoconf with much code updated to use this method of building FontForge - this is still a work in progress.
  • Large number of hard-to-find bugs and errors found and resolved.
  • Large review of bit mapping - with a more graceful/tolerant fail mode from errors.
  • Many improvements added for Python - Enabled for Python 2.x or Python 3.x
