astGUIclient (also known as Asterisk GUI client) is an open source, freely distributed and platform-independent web-based application implemented in PHP/Perl and designed from the offset to be used for managing an Asterisk PBX (Private Branch Exchange) server.
Asterisk is one the most popular open-source PBX software, which has been crafted as a telephony engine, as well as a powerful toolkit for developers who want to create communication applications. The astGUIclient software can be scaled across multiple Asterisk servers.
Features at a glance
Key features include support for inbound and outbound blended calls, web-based administrative and agent interfaces, email handling, complete support for logging and recording, as well as support for unlimited voicemail and IVR (Interactive Voice Response) boxes.
The VICIDIAL inbound and outbound contact center software is also included in the astGUIclient project, which supports all mainstream operating systems (see below for details), and it’s compliant with the USA, Canada and UK telecommunications regulatory.
In addition, support for web-configurable custom data fields has also been implemented into the astGUIclient application, which can be used from any personal computer or mobile device that has a supported web browser installed (Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, Internet Explorer).
Under the hood
Looking under the hood of astGUIclient, we can notice that the Perl programming language has been used to create the installer. The rest of the application is written in the PHP server-side programming language, which means that it can be deployed on any web server, such as Apache, IIS or nginx.
Being a web-based application, astGUIclient is platform-independent, so you can use it via a web browser from any operating system. At the moment, it is known to work on all GNU/Linux distributions, as well as the Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems, supporting 64-bit and 32-bit PCs.
