KDE Telepathy For Linux

KDE Telepathy is a suite of open source, portable and free applications, plasmoids and libraries for the KDE Plasma desktop environment, allowing users to chat, transfer files, make video calls, and much more.

As its name suggests, KDE Telepathy the application makes use of the Telepathy framework as its backend, supporting voice, text, video, and inter-application communication over several IM protocols.

However, the best features of KDE Telepathy is the ability to allow users to view their buddies in a standalone widget, as well as to respond to messages directly from the system tray area component of the application.

You can organize your contacts by name or in groups, such as co-workers, family, friends, acquaintances, etc. It is also possible to change your online status with custom messages or pre-defined ones.

KDE Telepathy supports popular Instant Messaging (IM) networks, including Facebook, Jabber, Google Talk, SIP, Steam, and lots more, offering a complete, multi-protocol instant messaging solution on your KDE desktop.

KDE Telepathy is designed from the ground up as a replacement for the Kopete instant messaging client, but with better integration between various components of the KDE Plasma desktop environment.

Of course, this means that the application is distributed by default with recent versions of the KDE Plasma project, available for download from the default software repositories of several distributions of Linux.

The entire project is written in the C++ programming language, using the cross-platform Qt GUI toolkit for the graphical user interface. It is fully compatible with all GNU/Linux operating systems where the Qt and KDE packages are available.

KDE Telepathy is usually distributed as part of the KDE project and has been successfully tested with both 32-bit and 64-bit hardware platforms. To install it on your distribution, use the pre-built binary packages from the main repos.
