aptosid For Linux

aptosid is an open source distribution of Linux derived from the well known KANOTIX distro, which is based on the award winning Debian GNU/Linux operating system. It uses the Xfce and KDE graphical desktop environments.

The OS is distributed in multiple editions, two Live CD versions with a lite KDE desktop and the Xfce environment, as well as a dual-arch Live DVD ISO image with the full KDE Plasma Workspaces and Applications. Supported architectures include 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64).

All three editions include the same boot options, such as the ability to start the live environment with default drivers, boot an existing operating system that is installed on the first disk drive, as well as to perform a system memory diagnostic test using the Memtest86+ utility.

When you want to install and use aptosid as your main operating system, you must choose between Xfce and KDE Plasma as the default desktop environment. While the Xfce desktop is perfect for low-end machines, both KDE Plasma sessions are suitable for mid-range and high-end systems.

While the Xfce version comes with Xfce-specific applications, the KDE Lite and KDE Full editions include KDE-specific applications. However, all three flavors come with the same third-party libre apps, such as the Iceweasel web browser, XSane image scanning program, XChat IRC client, GParted partition editor, Midnight Commander two-pane file manager, as well as the UXTerm and XTerm terminal emulators.
