Wine 2.0.1 release deprecates the wineinstall component

After more than three months, the major and stable Wine 2.0 branch got its first point release, versioned 2.0.1, which fixes a lot of issues and crashes with numerous Windows apps and games.

Wine 2.0.1 is now the latest stable Wine release, recommended for all GNU/Linux users, and besides deprecating the wineinstall component, it implements a total of 47 bug fixes, improving detection of Nvidia GeForce GT 525M GPUs, as well as support for the Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS (Precise Pangolin) operating system.

Among the Windows apps that received attention in Wine 2.0.1, we can mention iMesh 10, nanoCAD 5, ComicRack 0.9.x, AmiBroker 6.00, Git for Windows 2.7.0, Winamp, RPGMaker 2003 (Steam), WOLF RPG Editor, QQ 2013, One Note Free Retail, Piriform Speccy 1.3, and Acid Pro Trial 7.0e.

As for the Windows games that should work much better on your Linux box, we can mention Jojo's Fashion Show 2: Las Cruces demo, The Chosen: Well of Souls, Black & White, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Venom Codename: Outbreak, Agarest: Generations of War, Tera Online, and Marvel Heroes 2015.

Ether One Redux, Into the Stars, Civilization II, Rush for Berlin Gold, Odallus: The Dark Call, Starcraft 2, Zafehouse demo, The Magic School Bus Explores The Solar System, Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara, Bug!, Warpath 21st Century, Magic: The Gathering Online 4.0, and KiriKiri Z based games were also improved.

Wine 2.0.1 is available for download right now on our website if you fancy compiling it yourself, but it should be soon available from the main repos of your favorite GNU/Linux distribution.
