wattOS, a lightweight, energy saving Linux distribution designed to not only bring your old computer back to life, but also eat up as little power as possible, is now at version R5.

The most important change in wattOS R5 is the new Linux kernel which is now at version 3.0.0-16. The developer said there weren’t enough reasons to implement a kernel from the 3.2 series.

Highlights of wattOS R5:

· The music player was changed to Audacious, complete with a plug-in for music stream searching; · The new video player is SMPlayer; · The native email client was removed; · The new graphics editing program Pinta was installed; · New power management utilities are now available; · Jupiter, including the latest powertop and xfce4 power manager are now available; · Chromium was replaced with Midori; · Better webcam support with cheese included by default was added; · Small tweaks and improvements; · Changed from wicd to network manager.
