We reported last on the upcoming availability of the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III real-time strategy (RTS) video game for GNU/Linux, SteamOS and macOS platforms on June 8, 2017, and today, Feral Interactive has announced that the port will come with support for the next-generation graphics technologies.

In other words, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III promises support for the Vulkan API on GNU/Linux and SteamOS operating systems, as well as support for the Metal API on Apple's macOS. These cutting-edge graphics and 3D rendering technologies will make the game look stunning on both platforms.

"On Linux, the game will launch with OpenGL by default. However, an option to play using the Vulkan graphics API will be available via the Feral pre-game options window," said Feral Interactive. "Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III for macOS will be powered by Metal, Apple's proprietary graphics API."

In the meantime, we keep our fingers crossed for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III to support both AMD Radeon and Nvidia graphics cards on Linux/SteamOS. Feral Interactive is yet to unveil the minimum and recommended system requirements for playing the game on Linux and macOS, so we'll let you know as soon as that happens.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III is a real-time strategy (RTS) video game from the creators of the exquisite Warhammer 40,000 universe, released by Relic Entertainment and Sega in partnership with Games Workshop last month, on April 27. The game is currently available for purchase on Steam only for Microsoft Windows systems.
