14 DAY TRIAL // Just a few minutes ago, Valve pushed a new build to the brewmaster_beta channel of its outstanding, Debian-based SteamOS operating system for gamers that love the Linux platform.
The latest stable SteamOS branch is at version 2.60, released in mid-January 2016, and today's Brewmaster 2.63 Beta build replaces the previous 2.61 Beta release announced by Valve at the end of January, which brought updated packages from the upstream Debian GNU/Linux 8.3 (Jessie) repositories.
According to the release notes, SteamOS Brewmaster 2.63 Beta ships today to public testers with an Nvidia Linux video driver from the 355 stack that includes support for the powerful new Vulkan 1.0 3D API that has been getting a lot of publicity lately and promises to be the next best thing in gaming.
Besides that, Valve also patched the infamous Glibc security vulnerability everyone is talking about these days and pushed some much-needed updates to software like Iceweasel, cURL, Kerberos (KRB5), MySQL 5.5, and libgcrypt20, thus making sure that its SteamOS gaming operating system stays stable and reliable.
However, please keep in mind that this is still a Beta version, which means some functionality might not work as expected. If you're planning on switching your stable SteamOS machine to the brewmaster_beta channel, you can do so right now by downloading the latest ISO images.
