Unity is a game engine that managed to get a lot of developers and fans in the past couple of years. Even if it supports the Linux platform, there are no Linux tools just yet, and the developers have explained why that happened.

A lot of modern games are using Unity, and there are quite a few titles out there using this particular engine, but there is no Linux Editor. The developers of Unity have detailed their road so far and just how long it will take to arrive in a usable form.

"Some of us at Unity have been working off and on to port (and maintain the port) of the Unity Editor to Linux for quite some time (it’s pretty much the poster child of Unity’s internal developer hackweeks), and I must say, it’s coming along quite nicely. Our plan is to ship an experimental build Soon to let you try it out," said Na'Tosha Bard, one of the Unity developers.

The fact that it's being worked on by developers during hackweeks is not good news, but at least we know that something is being done. They've hit some issues along the way, but once the Linux editor for Unity arrives, we'll certainly see a lot more titles using this particular engine.
