During the Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) release on October 22, Canonical also unveiled the new version of the Ubuntu Studio distribution, a special Ubuntu flavor designed for musicians, graphic designers, and video production professionals.

Ubuntu Studio 15.10 is a small release, just like previous versions. However, it inherits many of the new, under-the-hood features of Ubuntu 15.10, such as Linux kernel 4.2 and the updated graphics stack.

Among the main changes in Ubuntu Studio 15.10, which is based on the Xubuntu Linux distribution, thus using the Xfce 4.12 desktop environment, worth mentioning is a reorganized Applications Menu, which now includes only three main software categories.

In alphabetical order, they are Audio, Graphics, and Video. However, the Ubuntu Studio maintainers inform users that the categorization of the menu is still work in progress. Also, the ubuntustudio-controls app is now fully functional and can be used to manage the real-time privileges of users.

Moreover, the distribution moved from the libav library to the FFMpeg multimedia backend for decoding and encoding audio and video files. Last but not least, numerous applications and core components were updated to their latest versions as of October 22, 2015.

Ubuntu Studio users are also being informed by the distribution's maintainers that, while the package of the Ardour DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software is called ardour3, the application itself was updated to version 4. Download Ubuntu Studio 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) right now from Softpedia.
