On October 6, Canonical's Michael Vogt had the pleasure of announcing the release and immediate availability for download of a new update for the Snappy Ubuntu Core 15.04 operating system.

The new version marks the sixth update to Snappy Ubuntu Core, a special version of the Ubuntu Linux operating system that uses Snappy packages instead of the traditional ones from the upstream Debian GNU/Linux distribution.

According to the brief changelog, Snappy Ubuntu Core 15.04 now comes with basic support for UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) firmware updates, a feature that appears to be the latest trend among Linux kernel-based operating systems.

Additionally, the sixth update to the stable Snappy Ubuntu Core 15.04 operating system addresses a crash that occurred every time the coreconfig component received invalid configuration from the user.

"We are excited to announce a new Snappy Ubuntu Core stable release (image 6 at 15.04/stable)," says Michael Vogt on behalf of the Snappy team. "The stable images were also updated to reflect the latest image available in the stable channel."

As usual, you can download the latest Snappy Ubuntu Core images from the official mirrors. The latest version is based on Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet). The Ubuntu Snappy Core edition has been designed from the ground up by Canonical to be installed on embedded and Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
