Ubuntu developers are working hard on the next OTA update for Ubuntu Touch, and they are preparing quite a few changes, some of them being for Mir and Unity 8.

Canonical devs are using their six-week development cycle for each update to its fullest, and they have a lot on their plate right now. There are a few features that haven't landed with the previous update, as the addition of the Dekko email app, so OTA-7 promises quite a lot.

"This week has mostly been filled with OTA-7 progress. Fixes or features have landed to webbrowser-app, media-hub, Ubuntu-settings-components, mir, unity8, bluez and more. A big Ubuntu UI Toolkit landing just finished, with potentially interesting changes for app developers. Also the Shorts app got updated regarding the core apps community team's projects," writes Canonical's Timo Jyrinki.

Ubuntu Touch is a stable platform, but it's still young and many of the features that you would consider normal are just landing or about to arrive. There is still a lot of work to be done, but Ubuntu for mobile devices is making headway in various markets. For example, BQ Aquaris e4.5 and BQ Aquaris E5 HD have just arrived in India, via Snapdeal.

We also got to see the release of the same devices in the United States, and European and Chinese users can buy the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition.

We'll have more information about the coming changes in OTA-7 next this coming week.
