14 DAY TRIAL // A few moments ago, Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth had the great pleasure of announcing the codename of the next major Ubuntu Linux release, Ubuntu 16.10.
Mark Shuttleworth usually announces the codename of the following Ubuntu release a few days before the launch of the version that's still in development, in this case, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus), but this time around, he posted the announcement on the same day.
There's a very brief announcement from Mark Shuttleworth for the codename of Ubuntu 16.10, which has been dubbed Yakkety Yak. Yes, you're reading it right, Ubuntu 16.10 will be known as Yakkety Yak. No joke!
"Yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yak. Naturally," said Mark Shuttleworth on his blog about the codename of Ubuntu 16.10, whose development cycle will start in a few days. The operating system will launch later this year, sometime at the end of October.
As usual, Ubuntu 16.10 will have only a Final Beta development build sent to public beta testers, as the rest of the opt-in flavors will also participate in the Alpha 1, Alpha 2, and Beta1 releases. An internal RC (Release Candidate) build will also be available in October.
The goals for Ubuntu 16.10 "Yakkety Yak" are still to be decided by the Ubuntu team, and as usual, we will be covering its entire development cycle. Stay tuned!
