The Ubuntu Kernel Team at Canonical had their regular meeting on September 1, announcing the rebasing of Ubuntu 15.10's development kernel packages, the master-next branch, on the recently released Linux 4.2 kernel.

Joseph Salisbury had the pleasure of informing us all about today's meeting of the Ubuntu Kernel Team, with links and details to incoming bug data and release metrics, as well as the schedule for what's coming next in the Wily Werewolf development cycle.

Therefore, the last day for pushing the Linux kernel 4.2 packages to the official channels for Ubuntu 15.10 will be September 5. After that, the Final Beta of Ubuntu 15.10 will arrive on September 24, the kernel freeze will happen on October 8, followed by the final freeze of the operating system on October 15, 2015.

"We have rebased our Wily master-next branch to 4.2 final from upstream. We are pushing to get this uploaded to the archive asap," said the Ubuntu Kernel Team developers during their IRC meeting that took place yesterday afternoon.

The final release of Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) will happen on October 22, 2015, according to the official release schedule. The OS will be based on Linux kernel 4.2, which brings great new features and performance improvements. At the moment, Ubuntu 15.10 is in development, based on Linux kernel 4.1.6 LTS.
