The upcoming Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) will have the latest LibreOffice 5.0 suite when it is made available in October, and in the meantime the newest RC has been made available through the repos.

Ubuntu comes with LibreOffice installed by default for some time now, and the developers aim to always provide the newest packages possible. The good news is that The Document Foundation is planning to release a new important update, probably the biggest one so far, and Ubuntu 15.10 will certainly integrate that release. It's quite possible that the first maintenance update for the 5.x branch of LibreOffice might make it as well.

In any case, The Document Foundation has already announced some of the features that will land with the new version and they include Emoji and in-word replacement support, drag and drop for images, better toolbars, improved table management, image cropping, DOC and OOXML improvements, and much more.

"LibreOffice 5.0.0~rc3.1 finally uploaded for Ubuntu wily to the LibreOffice-prereleases PPA. LibreOffice 5.0.0~rc3.1 is the first release candidate with the new splash screen. Note that due to a glitch in the matrix you need LibreOffice-5.0.0~rc3.1 -- LibreOffice-5.0.0~rc3 was unfortunately still rc2 inside really due to a fumble on my part," wrote Bjoern Michaelsen on Google+.

You can also download the LibreOffice 5.0 RC3 from Softpedia and give it a try.
