Canonical's Joseph Salisbury was happy to announce a few minutes ago the summary of the Ubuntu Kernel Team meeting that took place earlier today, July 14, 2015, on the Ubuntu's official IRC channels.

According to the announcement posted on the Canonical Kernel Team's website, it would appear that the Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) operating system was rebased on the latest stable Linux 4.1 kernel branch, which is an LTS (Long Term Support) release that will get security patches and bugfixes for a few more years.

"We have rebased the master-next branch of our Wily kernel to 4.1 and are working through fixing up kernel test failures as well as failing DKMS packages with this newer kernel. We continue to track the 4.2 kernel in our unstable repo," says Joseph Salisbury.

However, the team is working hard these days to fix the last remaining issues that they have encountered when running Linux kernel 4.1 LTS on the current daily build of the Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) operating system.

Although tracking of the Linux kernel 4.2 continues in the unstable repository, there is no news on whether the final version of the Ubuntu 15.10 distro will be rebased on Linux kernel 4.2 or not. The second Alpha build of Ubuntu 15.10 will be available at the end of the month.
