Don't get excited, this is just a browser game on Steam

Ubisoft hasn't expressed any interest in the Linux platform until now, but it looks like that might change, although I wouldn't get my hope up. Anno Online just landed on Linux, but it's a browser game published through Steam.

There are a few publishers that have shown their support for the Linux platform, but Ubisoft is not one of them. Activision is also one of the companies that hasn't made any kind of statements regarding Linux games and neither Electronic Arts. To be fair, neither Ubisoft nor Anno Online is pretty much a browser game, so it's not like they are suddenly porting everything.

"Anno Online upholds the traditional in-depth economics that are the hallmarks of the award-winning Anno franchise. The key element of the game is the player’s main island, where the foundations of your commercial empire will be set," reads the entry on Steam.

If you decided to download the game on Steam, you will notice that Anno Online weights only 31MB, which is not a lot. The users are already describing it as a Farmville clone or lookalike, so it hasn't been received too well.

It also doesn't say anything about Ubisoft’s intentions towards the Linux platform, although we can only hope.
