The development team behind the Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE) project, an open-source desktop environment that keeps the spirit of the old-school KDE3.5 desktop alive, have announced the Trinity Desktop Environment R14.0.3 release.

Trinity Desktop Environment R14.0.3 is, as its version number suggests, the third maintenance release of the R14 stable series, bringing various improvements and new features, among which we can mention support for Ruby 2.2 and giflib 5.1, better floppy support in the media manager, as well as patches for many security issues.

Moreover, the handling of various types of discs has been greatly improved in the media manager, an annoying issue that prevented various apps (e.g. K3b or KOffice) from opening their saved files, related to the built-in ZIP file support, has been patched, and there's a better detection of mime types that are not built into TDE.

"R14.0.3 is the third maintenance release of the R14.0 series, and is built on and improves the previous R14.0.2 version. Maintenance releases are intended to promptly bring bug fixes to users, while preserving overall stability through the avoidance of both new features and major codebase re-factoring," reads today's announcement.

Trinity Desktop Environment R14.0.3 is available for download for select GNU/Linux operating systems right now from the project's website, but you can also grab the sources from our website. A complete list with all the issues that have been resolved in this release of TDE can be found here.
