The btrfs-progs 4.7.3 software has been included as well

The second day of October brought us a new, updated ISO image of the SystemRescueCd system rescue and recovery Live CD developed by French developer François Dupoux.

SystemRescueCd 4.8.3 is now the latest version of the independent system rescue and recovery Live CD, which you can use on any computer to save data from broken disk drives, as well as to fix the bootloader or other components that have been altered due to mistakes or bad user usage.

There aren't so many changes implemented in SystemRescueCd 4.8.3 because it comes only ten days after the release of the previous maintenance update, namely SystemRescueCd 4.8.2. However, we can't help but notice that the Live CD now offers the recently released Linux 4.4.23 LTS kernel as the alternative kernel.

The alternative kernel can be used by users only if they are having issues with the standard kernel, which is currently at version 4.1.33 in the SystemRescueCd 4.8.3 ISO image. As expected, the alternative Linux 4.4.23 LTS kernel is available for both 64-bit and 32-bit hardware (altker32 + altker64).

SystemRescueCd 4.8.3 features an up-to-date graphics stack

Other than that, the graphics stack (X.Org environment and drivers) received an update as well in SystemRescueCd 4.8.3, based on the X.Org Server 1.18.4 display server, and it looks like the btrfs-progs 4.7.3 software has been included for those who want to manage (format, resize, split, merge, or delete) their Btrfs partitions.

Last but not least, the missing /efi/boot/bootx64.efi file required to boot SystemRescueCd on UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) systems has been added in the updated ISO image, which you can download right now via our website. The Live CD must be written to a USB flash drive or CD disc before use.
