14 DAY TRIAL // On the first day of 2016, François Dupoux, the maintainer and lead developer of the SystemRescueCd project, a GNU/Linux Live CD designed for system rescue and recovery operations, proudly announced the release of SystemRescueCd 4.7.0.
According to the official release notes, which we have attached at the end of the article for reference, SystemRescueCd 4.7.0 is powered by the long-term supported Linux 3.18.25 kernel, which is the standard kernel for the distribution, enabled by default for 32-bit and 64-bit systems, which means that Linux kernel 3.14.x LTS has finally been replaced.
Furthermore, SystemRescueCd 4.7.0 ships with Linux kernel 4.1.15 LTS, which is the alternative kernel used in the distribution, also available for 64-bit and 32-bit architectures. Linux kernel 4.1 is the latest, most advanced long-term supported kernel available on the market.
Still using the lightweight Xfce 4.12 desktop environment, SystemRescueCd 4.7.0 upgrades the graphics stack to X.Org Server 1.17.4, updates btrfs-progs to version 4.3.1 and partclone to version 0.2.80. Lastly, the OpenRC init system was updated to version 0.18.4.
